Some more of Martin's pals at the launch
Martin's brother Andy and school friend Robin Prior with Teresa & Jan
Over 160 of Martin's family and friends gathered at Oxo2 on February 18 for our Launch Party - friends from school; business; his days playing hockey, cricket & golf; his later years watching sport and from his involvement with Northants Cricket and Send a Cow; friends made whilst living in Lightwater, Fleet, Lincolnshire, King's Cliffe & Rutland; friends aged from 12 - 90!
James Lawson, Chairman of Trustees of The Martin Lawrence Memorial Trust, welcomed everyone and introduced representatives from the first 3 projects to be supported by the Trust - Send a Cow in Ethiopia, the Fred Trueman State-School Cricket League and the Rutland Osprey Project - and encouraged everyone to go and find out more about these projects.
Tricia then introduced and thanked her fellow Trustees for their hard work - daughter Susannah, James Lawson and Mark Caswell who has done such a wonderful job setting up our impressive website. She also thanked her eminent Patrons - Lord Naseby, President of Northants Cricket, Sir David Reid, business, golfing and holiday friend and Neil & Judy Durden-Smith, friends from Surbiton Hockey Club over 50 years ago.
She thanked her son, Stephen, who as Event Co-ordinator had helped organise the evening, and the Concerto Group for their support.
She went on to say how many people had described Martin in their letters and cards as a 'Life-Enhancer' and her hope was that through the Trust we could enhance the lives of many young people in Africa & the UK and at the same time enhance our own lives by getting together 'to have fun and raise funds' - Martin's own wish and words.
After a Toast to Martin and the success of the Trust, guests enjoyed delicious 'bowl food', learnt more about the projects, chatted and enjoyed dressing up (as Martin did!) for fun photos in the Photo Booth - see photo gallery below.
A great evening of fun, friendship and finding out about the Trust and projects to be supported.
