November 2016 Newsletter

18 teams of 4 played in our 'RED TROUSER' GOLF DAY on September 14 at The Luffenham Heath Golf Club. The course was in great condition and it was a beautiful late summer day, so the day was much enjoyed by all those playing and also joining us for dinner. The winning team of Guy Gilman, Ken Argo, John Gaunt and John Harris won the MLMT Trophy and Putters, and John Harris also won the Nearest the Pin on the 9th Hole. Charles Lacey won Martin's Colourful Jacket after a Putt-Off in the Long Left-Handed Putting Competition. Huge thanks to everyone who donated and bid for Auction Prizes, helped on the day and took part in any way. We raised a wonderful £6353, so were able to give the Motor Neurone Disease Association £3176 - which will go the North Wiltshire MND Support Group where Tricia is now an Association Visitor. Full report & pictures here.

Tricia attended the UNITED BISCUITS REUNION at The Yorkshire Grey pub in the City on October 7, and thanked Alan Coates (Martin's successor as Sales Director at UB) for their generous donation of £600 to MLMT. Alan made a most entertaining speech and he, and many others, spoke fondly of Martin's time at UB.

Sadly Tricia's VISIT TO ETHIOPIA and our MLMT supported SEND A COW project in October had to be cancelled, due to unrest in certain areas of the country, especially around Addis Ababa. However we have received a report on the progress of members of our project in Wolayita area and the 6 School Clubs we support , which are proving a great way to extend Send a Cow's training programme enabling schools to play a part in poverty reduction in rural communities. FUTURE PLANS

At our Trustees Meeting in October, we decided that 2017 should be our final year of events - We feel we will have achieved so much - giving young people in Africa and the UK a better chance in life through learning, education and sport - through our support of Send a Cow's work in Ethiopia, the Rutland Osprey Project, the Belvoir Cricket & Countryside Trust, SKRUM, and The Fred Trueman's School Cricket League. Next year will be our last supporting our 3-year Send a Cow project in Ethiopia, and we will again sponsor BCCT's School Days and support SKRUM's work in Swaziland. We will also continue our support for ROP and help Tim Mackrill as he sets up the'Osprey Leadership Foundation' inspiring young people in UK, Gambia and elsewhere to get involved with conservation.

EVENTS IN 2017

We will be joining an EVENING OSPREY CRUISE ON RUTLAND WATER ON JULY 22. Tim Mackrill and other members of the ROP will welcome us on one of their regular Saturday Evening Cruises from 5.30-7pm on the Rutland Belle. Further details and booking at www.ospreys.org.uk/lyndon-reserve/events. There will be no further fund-raising element (as these cruises raise funds for ROP) but nearer the date we will find out if any MLMT supporters would like to join up for a meal afterwards. PLEASE BOOK EARLY IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO JOIN THIS LAST EVENT IN RUTLAND AREA

We will be organising a final CELEBRATION PARTY (similar to our Launch Party) in NOVEMBER 2017 in the London Area

Thank you for your continued interest and support for MLMT, and may we WISH YOU A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS. We look forward to seeing many of you in 2017
