Spring 2017 Newsletter

Spring has arrived and the Ospreys are safely back from Africa and have now laid 4 eggs in their nest at Manton Bay, Rutland Water. We do hope many of you will join us for our EVENING OSPREY CRUISE ON RUTLAND WATER ON JULY 22. The Rutland Belle will leave Whitwell Harbour on the North Side of Rutland Water at 5.30pm and with 4 growing chicks to feed we should, hopefully, see some action. Tim Mackrill and other members of the Rutland Osprey Project team will be with us. Booking essential (£22 adults/£13 under 16s) by phoning 01572-737378 or online at www.ospreys.org.uk/lyndon-reserve/events. This will be our final event in Rutland, so do book early as numbers are limited. Nearer the date we will contact those coming to find out if you would like to join up for a pub meal afterwards.

THANK YOU to everyone who attended events and generously supported us in 2016, which means we can continue to fund our 4 chosen projects again this year - more details on each Project page -

BELVOIR CRICKET & COUNTRYSIDE TRUST'S SCHOOL DAYS - 1432 children and over 100 school staff from 26 primary schools attended in 2016 - find out more

SEND A COW in Wolayita, Ethiopia - our groups & school clubs enter their third & final year working with Send a Cow and Tricia will be visiting them in November 2017 to see how their lives have been changed. Send a Cow has recently won a prestigious BOND award for innovation - view video here

SKRUM in Swaziland - 202 schools were visited with 4383 children receiving coaching + another 3252 pupils reached by classroom sessions in 2016. Stephen & Tricia attended the Inaugural SKRUM DINNER at Brasserie Blanc, South Bank, when we met Michael Collinson (Founder/CEO) most of the Trustees and Chris Robshaw, the principal speaker.

RUTLAND OSPREY PROJECT - we funded the publication of 3 books 'Be an Osprey Expert', 'Ozzie's Return' and 'Ozzie heads the Way', and provided more binoculars for children visiting Waderscrape Hide in 2016.

Stephen & Tricia will be at LORD'S CRICKET GROUND on July 6 and will be picnicking on the Coronation Lawn as usual!

FUTURE PLANS -  At a recent Trustees Meeting and after consultation with family, patrons and friends, we have decided that this financial year (ending January 31, 2018) will be our last of fund-raising and holding events, though Tricia intends to continue to support our projects as a lasting memorial to Martin's love of Cricket, Rugby, Nature and Africa.

SAVE THE DATE - OCTOBER 4 - for our final 'THANK YOU' CELEBRATION PARTY to be held at Winchester House, near Putney Bridge, SW15 1JN - www.winchesterhouseevents.co.ukFurther details will follow shortly.

Thanks again for your support and I hope to see many of you on July 6, July 22 and/or October 4.
