Summer 2017 Newsletter

On June 13 Tricia and James Lawson (Chairman of MLMT Trustees) visited the picturesque cricket ground at Belvoir Castle and spent a morning with school children attending one of Belvoir Cricket & Countryside Trust's School Days MLMT sponsors. Pupils from St Josephs, a small independent school in Nottingham's city centre, and Bottesford C of E school nearby in Lincolnshire were obviously thoroughly enjoying their time learning to bat, bowl, catch and throw a cricket ball and then played a fun short form of cricket. After a picnic lunch, in groups they learnt about gamekeeping, handled birds of prey, went on insect hunts and tried orienteering. The Nottingham based pupils, especially, were so excited to see an eagle, owl, a horse in the field nearby, a para-glider in the sky above and their teachers so appreciate the opportunity to bring children to Belvoir. We presented our cheque to Darren Bicknell (CEO of BCCT) to cover the cost of these School Days knowing what a valuable experience this is for both pupils and teachers participating.

Our ANNUAL REVIEW 2016 is now available to view (click here) showing how we were able to support our 4 chosen projects last year-

BELVOIR CRICKET & COUNTRYSIDE TRUST'S Schools Days, RUTLAND OSPREY PROJECT's work with children, SEND A COW groups and School Clubs in Ethiopia and SKRUM's work educating young people in Swaziland about HIVAids & Gender concerns through the great game of Rugby.

The Evening Osprey Cruise on Rutland Water on July 22 has 4 places left (due to a cancellation) so please phone 01572-737378 direct as soon as possible if you would like to join Tricia, Susannah & Stephen and others. Please also let Tricia know if you would like to join us for a BBQ meal afterwards at Barnsdale Lodge.

Stephen & Tricia also look forward to seeing some MLMT friends at Lord's Cricket Ground on July 6 - on the Coronation Lawn for a picnic lunch as in previous years.

Please join us for our final CELEBRATION PARTY ON OCTOBER 4 at Winchester House, nr Putney Bridge. Click here for invitation & booking form, and for more information on the venue see www.winchesterhouseevents.co.uk.

We very much hope many of you will come and celebrate what THE MARTIN LAWRENCE MEMORIAL TRUST has achieved and how - with your help - we have 'given (so many) young people in Africa and the UK a better chance in life through learning, education and sport.' We want to say THANK YOU and these words on Winchester House's gates date back to its Cromwellian links and Putney Debates in 1646. More details of the evening will follow in next newsletter.

Have a good summer and hope to see you soon
